Community Respite Service (CRS) maintains an attractive two-bedroom wheelchair accessible apartment located on St. Mary Avenue in downtown Winnipeg. The respite apartment offers people with disabilities and their families an option to have out-of-home respite in a comfortable homelike setting. Its downtown location allows for easy access to shopping, restaurants, movie theatres, the Forks and many other recreational activities.

Who can use the CRS apartment?
The apartment is available to anyone with a disability looking for a short term place to stay. Children and adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities who receive respite from CRS or any other source may use the apartment with their respite workers, with family members or other support. The apartment is also available to other organizations involved with people with disabilities.

What can the CRS apartment be used for?
The CRS apartment is for short term stays. It has been used to provide those living within Winnipeg with a place to get away and enjoy a change in their daily routine or by people visiting Winnipeg as a more suitable place to stay than a hotel, offering more privacy and comfort. It is fully equipped, wheelchair accessible and economic.

What features are included in the CRS apartment?
The respite apartment is fully furnished and has two bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has two single beds, while the other has one single bed and one hospital bed. The apartment is equipped with two hoyer lifts, an extra wheelchair and a commode. For your comfort the apartment also features air conditioning, a wheelchair accessible balcony, TV, VCR, DVD, a fully equipped kitchen, sheets and towels. The apartment building has an outdoor pool, sauna and racquetball court available for your enjoyment. Security personnel are on duty in the building 24 hours and the suite is equipped with safety features including security chimes on the suite and balcony doors and a security intercom.  The Fire Alarm Center is aware that persons using the respite apartment may require special assistance in case of an emergency.

What are my responsibilities when using the CRS apartment?
Guests are responsible for their own food, personal belongings, transportation, and arranging for their own care providers/homecare/respite (if needed). If the guest is staying at the apartment with a CRS Respite Worker, they must ensure that there is enough food, and money for any activities they may wish to participate in, for the both the respite worker and Participant.  When “checking out”, guests must take all personal belongings and leftover food with them.  The guest is also responsible for cleaning the suite before they leave the apartment. A cleaning checklist will be provided with the Apartment Guidelines. Guests are responsible for any damages to property at the apartment that occur while they are there.

The respite apartment may be used day or night, seven days a week.

The CRS Apartment rates:

  • Sunday – Thursday $150 per night
  • Friday – Saturday $180 per night
  • Day rate  $100
  • Weekly rate $900

Any cancellations made within seven days of a stay will be subject to cancellation charges.
